La Jolla Cove Swim Club
La Jolla (“HOY-yah”) Cove and the bay between La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Shores is one of the best places in the world for ocean swimming. The Cove is part of the La Jolla Ecological Preserve, an underwater park that spans 6,000 acres of ocean bottom and tidelands, including two canyons that are deepwater homes to our hosts: sea lions, seals, colorful jelly fish, beautiful leopard sharks, our club mascot and State fish: the bright orange Garibaldi--and much more. The cove is lined with caves that are great for summertime exploring.
The La Jolla Cove Swim Club (LJCSC) boasts a diverse membership of people that love open water swimming. Some of us take our time swimming slowly to the buoys and back, while others of us train and master the Catalina Channel, English Channel and Manhattan Island Marathon swims. Some wear wetsuits even in the summer, while others swim through the winter without one. The club is open to all-male, female, young, old, slow or fast. This is an informal club, with no regular meetings-that is, not on dry land, at least!
